The Noojee Noticeboard has joined NNEST as its first community subgroup, continuing its role as a broad, respectful local information space.
An update explaining that the Noojee Noticeboard has been brought under the NNEST banner as its first community subgroup, while remaining a broad community information space with a structured volunteer admin team.
The Noojee Noticeboard has officially been brought under the NNEST banner, becoming the first community subgroup supported by the newly established NNEST committee.
The Noticeboard began in 2019 during the great logging debate that divided our community. At the time, strongly held and opposing views were creating rifts between neighbours who had previously been friendly and supportive.
It was created in the hope of providing a shared digital community space where people could access reliable local information, stay connected, and continue communicating even when they did not agree.
Over the past seven years, the Noticeboard has grown to more than 3,300 members, far beyond the size of Noojee’s permanent population.
It has become a valued resource for sharing tourism and community event information, emergency warnings, road conditions, lost animals, produce and resources, local concerns, business updates, and everyday neighbourly support.
A structured volunteer admin team
As part of the transition under NNEST, administration roles have shifted and a more structured volunteer admin team is now working together to support and manage the page.
The Noticeboard will continue to operate as a broad community information space. It will not become a page solely for NNEST activities. NNEST has established its own page for organisational news and project updates, with information only shared across both pages when it is relevant to the wider community.
The purpose of the Noticeboard remains what it has always been: supporting useful local communication, respectful discussion, and connection across the community.
Everyone involved in administering and moderating the page is volunteering their time. Members who have concerns about a post, comment, or another member’s conduct are encouraged to report the content through the page and allow the admin team time to review it.
Trying to correct or police issues publicly can quickly turn one concern into a long and lively comment thread, creating more work for everyone involved. Reporting it and stepping back gives the admin team the best chance to consider the issue fairly and respond calmly.
Small-town pages will always have the occasional spirited moment. That is part of community life. A little patience, humour, and respect helps keep the Noticeboard useful, welcoming, and manageable for everyone.
A natural extension of shared values
Bringing the Noticeboard under NNEST is a natural extension of the values shared by both community spaces.
NNEST is focused on creating inclusive places where people feel safe enough to share what they love about the area, along with their own skills, interests, experiences, and knowledge.
The Noticeboard already provides that space digitally.
NNEST is now working towards establishing a physical community and nature-based field hub at the former Noojee Primary School site, built around the same idea: a place where people can gather, learn, contribute, collaborate, and remain connected across different backgrounds, perspectives, and interests.
The Noticeboard was created during a period of division, but its purpose was always hopeful: to keep people talking, sharing, and finding common ground.
That purpose remains just as important today as we look towards Noojee’s future.
